Quotes by Booker T. Washington, Hampton Institute, Class of 1875:

"Character is power, if you want to be powerful in the world, if you want to be strong, influential and useful, you can be so in no better way than by having a strong character."

"More and more we must learn to think not in terms of race or color or language or religion or of political boundaries, but in terms of humanity."

"Education itself is worthless. It is only as it is used that it is of value."

"An individual cannot succeed unless that individual has a great amount of faith in himself."

These quotes can be found on the foundation of the statue of Booker T. Washington on the campus of Hampton University which was dedicated May 12, 1984; William Harvey, President; Ray L. Leflore, Chairman; Ed Hamilton, Sculptor. The meditation garden and sculpture were given by the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

To this day, I had yet to witness anyone in the chain of securing freedom for blacks in America since Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, until Elijah Muhammad, of whom I personally represented.

Of course, I have encountered various so-called black American leaders via their writings and political thought processes...some I agree totally and others I have dismissed. Nevertheless, having access to various inputs from all sides of the political spectrum provides solutions for this age-old dilemma of blacks in America.
